What is a Barcamp?

No spectators. No rigid agenda.
Just you, the community, and the topics that matter right now.

A Barcamp is an unconference—an open, participatory event where the content is created by the attendees, for the attendees. We are an open association of people passionate about exchanging knowledge, and we believe that the collective intelligence of the room is always greater than that of a single speaker on a stage.

Forget the "Sage on the Stage." At a Barcamp, everyone is an expert, and everyone is a student. We don't sell tickets to watch people talking; we invite you to co-create an experience. Whether you are a veteran in your field or a curious newcomer, your voice shapes the day.

How It Works: The Mechanics of Chaos

There is no pre-set schedule. We start the day with a blank wall (the session board or grid) and a room full of ideas.

  1. Your Pitch: In the morning, anyone with an idea grabs a session card. You write down a topic (a question, a project, a debate, or a workshop) and pitch it to the room.
  2. Session Planning: We build the agenda together. Topics are pinned to the session board, timeslots are filled, and conflicts are negotiated on the fly. Within 30 minutes, a chaotic wall of sticky notes transforms into a structured program tailored exactly to the people in the room.
  3. The Sessions: You vote with your feet. Topics range from deep-dive technical workshops to "philosophical" roundtables.

The Golden Rules

To make this work, we rely on a few simple principles that foster an environment of active participation and mutual support:

  • You are not an audience member. There are no tourists here. If you are here, you participate. You ask questions, you share insights, or you lead a session.
  • The Law of Two Feet: If you find yourself in a session where you are neither learning nor contributing, it is your responsibility to use your two feet and move to another session. No hard feelings. It maximizes the value for everyone.
  • Share the Love: Blog it, tweet it, post it. What happens at BarCamp shouldn't stay at BarCamp.
  • No Hierarchies: We leave titles at the door. We introduce ourselves with three keywords, not a CV.

Is it for me?

We focus on Experience Design in all its forms: User Experience (UX), Customer Experience (CX), Brand Experience (BX), People Experience (PX) and any related discipline. If you are passionate about creating experiences and want to dive deeper into what drives our network, check out ucpx.network.
If you are looking for a more generic answer:

  • Have a burning question? Host a session to get answers.
  • Built something cool? Demo it.
  • Want to learn? Join the discussion.

At a Barcamp, the most valuable insights often happen in the "Lobby Track"—the spontaneous conversations between sessions. We just make the whole event feel like that.

Come prepared to share. Come prepared to learn. Come prepared to be surprised.
